FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
- How early should we start planning our kitchen?
- Before your plans are final. Involving us early gives you time to understand your options and make confident decisions without rushing.
- Do I need to know exactly what I want?
- Not at all. Many of our best conversations begin with questions rather than answers.
- What if I'm still early in planning?
- That's often the best time to start. Bringing us in early, while plans can still change, leads to better decisions.
- WHAT WILL WE DISCUSS?
- None. Our goal is to help you make informed decisions, whether your project begins soon or years from now.
- Where is your showroom, and when is it open?
- Our showroom is at 4445 Fulton St E in Grand Rapids. It's open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- When can I meet with a designer?
- Design consultations are held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at our Fulton Street showroom. You can start the conversation online or call (616) 940-5001.
- Should we choose appliances or cabinetry first?
- Think about them together. One decision affects the other—and both affect how the kitchen ultimately works.
- Is custom cabinetry always more expensive?
- Not necessarily. Cost depends on materials, finishes, and design complexity. Custom cabinetry is tailored to your space and needs—and can sometimes reduce costly modifications or workarounds.
- How are custom cabinets different from pre-assembled cabinets?
- Pre-assembled, or box, cabinets are factory-made in standard sizes, usually in 3-inch increments, with a limited choice of styles and colors. Custom features can be added, but the cost rises quickly, and some are built to hit a lower price, which can mean cutting corners. We don't sell pre-assembled cabinets. Every cabinet we make is built to fit your space in our own Grand Rapids shop.
Design & Materials
- What door styles do you offer?
- Our door and drawer front styles include Slab, Shaker, Boardwalk, Brookside, Summit, Mirage, and two Tambour profiles. Alternative doors are also available, including glass prep, metal framed, and other specialty options.
- What wood species and stains can I choose from?
- We build in white oak, walnut, maple, and knotty alder. Stain options include Natural, Warm Gray, Iron, Chestnut Gray, and Whitewash, depending on the species. Because photos can't show the true beauty of wood, final selections are made from real wood samples.
- What paint do you use, and can you match a color?
- We use Aqualux by Chemcraft, a no-VOC, water-based polyurethane finish. We can match any Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams color.
- Do you offer laminate?
- Yes. We offer laminates from Arauco Prism, Olon Purdeco, Rehau, Uniboard, and Unilin, with more than 170 colors to choose from.
- What's the difference between frameless, face frame, and inset cabinets?
- We build all three. Frameless cabinets have no frame on the front of the box, so doors cover it fully for a clean, modern look. Face frame cabinets have a solid frame on the front of the box, a more traditional look. Inset doors sit flush inside the frame for a furniture-like finish.
- How do I choose everything?
- Our 8-step selection process walks you through each decision in order: door style, finish, cabinet construction, drawers, lighting and panels, molding, accessories, and delivery and installation.
Construction & Hardware
- What hinges and drawer slides do you use?
- Our doors use Blum soft-close hinges, and our drawers run on Blum soft-close drawer guides.
- What drawer boxes are available?
- You can choose hardwood or plywood dovetail drawers, plywood butt joint drawers, or metal drawers. Metal drawers come in limited sizes and colors.
- Do you build range hoods and appliance panels?
- Yes. We build custom range hoods, appliance panels, finish panels, and floating shelves to match your cabinetry, and we can plan lighting into the design.
- What accessories can you add?
- Options include walnut peg systems, walnut silverware inserts, two-tiered silverware inserts, mixer lifts, and blind corner pull-outs, along with other custom additions that make your space easier to use.
Delivery, Installation & Warranty
- Do you install?
- Yes. We install the cabinetry, moldings, appliance panels, and hardware.
